Museum Sign Writing – Hull Streetlife Museum

Museum sign writing for Hull Streetlife Museum, Yorkshire. Hand painted, heritage cinema sign, traditionally painted with sable hair brush, signwriters enamel paint and mahl stick.

The Streetlife Museum is in the Museums Quarter on High Street in Hull’s Old Town, near Hull and East Riding Museum and Wilberforce House, next to the River Hull. Well worth a visit for it’s large display of transport, shops and signage from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Admission to the Streetlife Museum is free.

I was asked to design, paint and supply this 21 feet x 2 feet sign in period style for the museum’s new 1930’s style cinema. I opted for heavy sans serif lettering with an art deco style border and a traditional colour palette using a maroon background, ivory lettering, two tone gold shade and gold border.
